Vanderbilt Towers

  • Completion Date: October 2021
  • Location: Nashville, TN
  • Project Type: Implosion/Demolition & Abatement

About this Project

Demo Plus razed four Carmichael dormitory towers for Vanderbilt University using both the implosion method and the mechanical demolition method. All four towers were 14-story structures encompassing 200,000 square feet per structure. Extensive abatement was required in order to prep the buildings for demolition. The implosion of Tower 3 was performed in August 2019, followed by the mechanical demolition of Tower 4. Nashville’s first dual implosion was performed in July 2021 as we successfully prepped and managed the implosion of Towers 1 & 2.

Highlights:

  • Dual implosion of Towers 1 & 2 completed 9 seconds apart executed to perfection
  • Extreme condensed schedule to prepare and implode the towers allowed only 60 days to complete due
    to school schedule
  • Implosion of Carmichal Tower 3 which sat 75’ away from Tower 4
  • All off-site cleanup completed within 2 hours of implosions
  • Mechanically demolished Tower 4 requiring 8,000 cy of material to be brought on site as a bench for
    the ultra-high reach excavators
  • 56,000 cy of debris with 90% diverted from the landfill
